Free can mean several different things. One site may let you create a profile and browse members but charge for every message. Another may allow limited conversations, then place useful filters behind a subscription. Some apps are usable without paying, although free members may see more adverts or receive fewer daily introductions.
None of those models is automatically dishonest. The problem starts when the limits are hidden until after you have added photographs and written a profile. Before joining, look for plain answers to four questions:
- Can free members view people in their chosen local area?
- Can they send, read or reply to messages?
- Are distance, age and relationship preferences available as free filters?
- If there is a paid plan, does it renew automatically and where can it be cancelled?
Take a screenshot of the price and renewal terms before subscribing. Keep the confirmation email too. If you cancel, do it through the same place you paid, which might be the website, Apple App Store or Google Play, and check that you receive written confirmation.
A free profile is useful only if it lets you judge the local dating pool honestly.
On Date Merseyside Singles, the emphasis is on nearby people rather than impressive national membership totals. You can also read more about how our Merseyside dating approach handles the region.
